Drop Ship News: Your E-Commerce Business Needs a Good Tagline
September 4th, 2010If you have an online dropship business or other ecommerce enterprise, you would benefit greatly from creating a great tagline to help build your brand and promote your business!
What is a tagline?
In a nutshell, a tagline is a short, snappy slogan that is catchy and easy for people to remember and hopefully associate with your business.
A tagline is probably the best ad you will ever write!
You may hear these phrases referred to as slogans, catchphrases, marketing lines or trademark lines. However, for the most part, these little one liners are called taglines.
The most famous taglines are more or less a call to action:
- Just Do It
- Where’s the Beef?
- Let Your Fingers Do the Walking
- A Diamond is Forever
- And more
These taglines became household words because they are everything a great tagline should be!
Now, to create your own tagline for your online dropship business, be prepared to put your thinking cap on and devote some serious thought to what would constitute a fantastic tagline specifically for you.
There are several steps in making a great tagline:
- Link one of your product features with an abstract need. For example: Bayer Aspirin—Bayer Works Wonders. Or this one from Burger King: Have it Your Way. What specific need does your product fill? This is what your tagline should describe.
- Make a promise! Tell people what your product will do for them. For instance: Cascade dishwasher detergent’s tagline: For Virtually Spotless Dishes. This is short and to the point, Cascade promises (virtually) spotless dishes. What can you promise that your product will do?
- Keep it short! Coke’s famous tagline is an excellent example of this: The Pause That Refreshes. It describes what need is fulfilled and makes a promise in just four little words. When writing a tagline, remember that less is more!
- If possible, tie your tagline to your logo. The old Esso (now Exxon) logo was a tiger; hence their tagline “Put a Tiger in Your Tank.” If you don’t have a logo, there’s no time like now to come up with one!
A great tagline can help grow your online dropship business or other internet endeavor, and like the Energizer Bunny, it will keep on going….and going….and going…..
